“North Dakota's original talk-radio voice. The points at the top, the voice that carries farthest over open ground.”

CO-FOUNDER CHIEF STORYTELLING OFFICER

Scott is the voice that carries farthest over open ground, literally. He founded North Dakota's first all-talk radio station in Grand Forks in 1986, spent years running WDAY as general manager, and in 2008 built The Flag, Fargo's 50,000-watt AM 1100, into one of the region's loudest signals. Forty-five years on, his statewide show, What's On Your Mind, still anchors the airwaves across the Dakotas, Minnesota and Montana, and since 2025 it also simulcasts on television on BEK-TV.

The guest list tells the rest of the story. Scott has interviewed President Donald Trump live on the air, sat down with Vice President Dick Cheney inside the White House, and has run a weekly Talk Radio Town Hall with U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer for more than a decade. Governors, senators and national newsmakers keep coming back because they know the questions will be real and the whole region will be listening.

Off the air, Scott is co-owner of a Fargo-based media and marketing consultancy serving clients across the upper Midwest, from Fortune 500 companies to state government agencies. The practice runs on message architecture, spokesperson preparation, brand audits and market repositioning; issue-advocacy campaigns built to shift opinion; and integrated media campaigns across radio, streaming TV, digital and earned media, measured against real outcomes rather than impressions. He also sits in the confidential seat, the call CEOs and executive directors make before the press release goes out.

That record is baked into ElkHorn's solutions. One Voice, our Public Relations and media practice, runs on forty-five years of knowing exactly what a newsroom will use. Open Frequency is his home turf, ElkHorn Radio is the show he has been preparing for his whole career. One Voice draws on that same discipline, clear words under pressure and a plan instead of panic. Signal Range draws on the brand-positioning and market-entry counsel he has given more than 150 organizations, and Open Ground carries the issue-advocacy and campaign instincts honed across decades of election cycles and cause-driven work.

He leads the agency's Public Relations, communications and radio work, hosts the conversations on ElkHorn Radio, and moderates the rooms that matter, from the Impact 250 Roundtable in Washington to the ND Music Hall of Fame induction stage, because he believes this region's stories deserve a bigger hearing. When a client's message isn't landing, Scott finds the plainer, truer way to say it.
